Boeing Co. denied additional delays to its 787 Dreamliner jet on Saturday, after a report earlier in the day from German newspaper Die Welt said the plane would be held back an additional nine weeks.

"There is no further delay. It is exactly what we announced in April," the company's spokesman Yvonne Leach in Seattle told Reuters.

In the original report, the newspaper quoted a letter it says was sent by Boeing stating that delays would affect deliveries for 2012, pushing them 27 months behind schedule. The delay would affect carriers Air Europe, Gulf Air, Vietnam Airlines and British Airways among others.

In April the American company announced a delay of the jet due to slow progress in assembling planes and troubles with suppliers, which prompted customers to seek for compensation for late deliveries.

Shares of Boeing closed up 28 cents on Friday, or 0.33 percent to $85.69 on the New York stock Exchange.
